Swedish Weaving Table Runners
These are two Swedish weaving table runners I just finished for the upcoming craft sale. Both are on ecru monks cloth and the first pattern is simply interlocking diamonds done with 2 shades of salmon colored yarn. I really like this one especially and will make another later but using different colors.
The second one was done with alternating rows of solid lavender and a variegated lavender/pink/green/tan yarns. I often use a solid yarn with the variegated, especially to outline the pattern. It's not necessary but just one of my habits.
Each of these runners measures 9" wide x 56" long. I mainly use remnants for runners so the sizes will vary.
On the interlocking diamond pattern, I was trying to figure out what was 1 row. Do you have a more detailed picture or can you explain? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI chose to do each row with 4 floats up and 4 floats down. You can see that I could have made each row larger up and down and it would have come out the same way. I didn't use a pattern for this but we can make our diamonds larger or smaller as we choose. When I first started Swedish weaving, I made the diamonds (or lattice) very large and sparse but one of my friends decided to make very small diamonds on her afghan and it looked so nice that I've copied it ever since. You can make them any size you want, interlock them, or even change the shape. It's not something you might find in a printed pattern but something you can play around and try differently yourself.
